Q & A Pin Curls with a BeautySmack Apprentice, Marina
BeautySmack has been followoing Marina’s apprenticeship at Salon Evol for the past month. So far she and Miss Suzy have mastered hair braiding, hair curling, and scaring the shit out of people by leaving Miss Suzy in the back of the car. Marina also took her first test two weeks ago, and we wanted to follow up on her scores. Today I decided to do a little Q & A with Marina and discuss her challenges with pin curls, since now Miss Professor Tonya has moved onto teaching her just that
BS- Can you explain what is so tedious about doing the pin curls?
Marina- Doing pin curls on long hair is time consuming..at least when your first starting because you are rolling 1/2 in. sections of hair with your fingers. Imagine that! And I had to complete the entire head! I actually had the nerve to ask Miss Tonya if I could stop 3/4 of the way through, and Yes I had to finish!!! Hehe
BS- How are the stylists at Salon Evol reacting to your practice skills?
M- They love it! They’re very excited for my progress and ready to bring me along to photo shoots to help set hair in curls (such a tedious task). I was getting a little frustrated while learning to do the pin curls because it was taking me so long, but Licia, another stylist at Salon Evol, reminded me that I’m a perfectionist, and that it’s important to me that I get things done right the first time. So realizing this quality about my personality is helping me to relax, take a deep breath, and even though I strive for perfection, it takes time and effert.
BS- How was your first test? You had mentioned it was difficult. Could you have prepared for it any better?M- Even though i got an 85% on the test, overall, the test was pretty easy and multiple choice. I guess I should have read the chapter one more time :/, but I will tonight!! I have two more tests this week and as long as I thoroughly read thru everything I’ll be fine.
Here’s a close up of the pin curling action
Until the next chapter… peace
